Becoming a member of the Melbourne Women’s Foundation allows me to channel my passion into making a tangible impact for women across our community. Working at SisterWorks, a local not-for-profit organisation focused on the economic empowerment of migrant, refugee and asylum seeker women, has shown me firsthand the profound difference that collective funds, like those managed by the Melbourne Women’s Foundation, can make in empowering and uplifting women.

Through my membership, I have the privilege of connecting with other dedicated women who share a commitment to supporting and advocating for women. These connections not only inspire me but also provide a robust network of like-minded individuals, fostering collaboration and amplifying our collective efforts to create positive change.

“I dedicate my time and expertise to support initiatives that improve the lives of migrants, women, and minority groups in Australia.

After attending an event with a friend, I joined a Yarra social dinner and discovered the enriching community experience of this giving circle.

I love that I can tailor my involvement to fit my schedule, choosing from various events and relaxed dinners that make a difference in people’s lives. This allows me to focus on causes I care about while continually learning and evolving.

This membership means working with like-minded people to create positive change.”

“I felt inspired to join the Melbourne Women’s Foundation after attending the Foundation’s Digital Inclusion learning event. Highlighting, unpacking and addressing gender equity issues like this is so important.

I’ve worked and volunteered in the not-for-profit sector, including managing a three-year ‘Strong Women for Strong Women’ nationwide advocacy & fundraising campaign for UNICEF NZ. It encouraged advantaged NZ women to support the empowerment of women and girls around the world, through tackling challenges such as access to clean water & sanitation, child protection, gender parity in education, and HIV/AIDS.

Bringing my focus closer to home now, I’m very conscious there’s plenty of work still to be done to address social justice issues here in our local community too. By being a member of the Foundation, I can contribute in a practical way, connecting and working together with like-minded women on our shared purpose – the wellbeing of women and girls.”
