Vale Angela Wheelton

BY Melbourne Women's Foundation   03/10/2025

In a packed room of MWF members and guests at our recent Impact Update event, MWF Co-Founder, Pat Burke, and on behalf of Co-Founder, Gillian Hund, paused to pay tribute to MWF Founding and Life Member, Angela Wheelton OAM DSJ.

“We were recently advised by Paul Wheelton (Angela’s husband) also a MWF Life Member, of Angela’s passing. Angela had been cruelly diagnosed with early onset dementia a few years ago and during the course of her illness Alzheimer’s took away the essence that made her Paul’s soul mate.

Angela was a vibrant person, with a generous smile and heart. When she met Paul later in life she fully embraced philanthropy’s mantras of “Give while you Live!” as well as one of our favourite sayings, “philanthropy means the giving of your time, talent and treasure”.

Together they were a philanthropic powerhouse with their unwavering support of many nonprofit organisations. Angela held Board and Director roles of The Bali Children’s Foundation, Guide Dogs Victoria, First Step, Her Heart, Wheelton Social Impact and the Evident Foundation.

What set Angela and Pauls’ passion for giving apart from others, was their dedication to not only support organisations with critical funding, but to also provide their professional expertise as Board members, Chairs of fundraising committees and mentors of many including young professionals working in the nonprofit space.

With her interest in giving to organisations working with vulnerable women and children, Angela had keenly followed and supported the grant-making of Melbourne Women’s Foundation since our inception in 2014. Angela will be greatly missed by us all.”
