BY Mebourne Women's Foundation   07/05/2026

Melbourne Women’s Foundation is seeking a Treasurer and Chair of the Finance and Risk Committee to join our Board on a voluntary basis.

This is an opportunity to contribute your financial leadership, governance experience and care for community to a women-led giving circle helping women and their families thrive across Greater Melbourne.

About MWF

Melbourne Women’s Foundation is a women-led giving circle that makes philanthropy personal, collective and accessible.

We bring members together to pool their giving, learn from community organisations and support local nonprofits walking alongside women and their families experiencing vulnerability. We do not deliver frontline services ourselves. Instead, we strengthen the organisations that do.

About the role

The Treasurer and Chair of the Finance and Risk Committee is a Board Director role responsible for supporting the financial sustainability, integrity and accountability of MWF.

The role provides leadership across financial governance, risk management and compliance, while helping the Board make informed, strategic decisions.

Key areas of contribution include:

  • overseeing MWF’s financial health, reporting, budgeting and forecasting
  • chairing the Finance and Risk Committee
  • supporting strong risk management and compliance practices
  • contributing to Board discussions with a financial and risk lens
  • supporting fundraising, donor confidence and responsible resource stewardship
  • representing MWF with credibility to members, donors, partners and regulators where required

About you

We are looking for someone who brings financial expertise, sound judgement and a collaborative approach.

You will ideally have:

  • demonstrated experience in finance, accounting, audit or financial management
  • experience in management and governance, ideally including Board, Treasurer or Finance Committee roles
  • strong understanding of financial governance, reporting and risk management
  • knowledge of, or interest in, the not-for-profit, philanthropy or collective giving sector
  • strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • commitment to MWF’s purpose, vision and values

Membership of Melbourne Women’s Foundation is mandatory for this role. A current Police Check is also required.

Diversity and inclusion

MWF values diversity and seeks to reflect the community we serve in the composition of our Board. We welcome expressions of interest from people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

Time commitment

The role involves attending Board and Finance and Risk Committee meetings, preparing for meetings, contributing to strategic planning and fundraising activities, and attending a minimum of four MWF organisational events each year.
